ARTIST STATEMENT

As conceptual artists, we—Kit Abate and Daniel Mariotti—embrace the absurdity, spontaneity, and defiance of tradition that defined the Dada movement. Our work exists in the tension between intention and accident, between creation and collapse. It is a rejection of the idea that art must always be polished, successful, or even fully realized.

Our practice is a process-driven exploration of failure, redirection, and persistence. Every idea mutates, every attempt carries the risk of unraveling, and every outcome is uncertain. We document the chaos—embracing the moments when structure dissolves and meaning shifts.

This is not about chasing perfection; it is about exposing the pressures of creation and the impossibility of forcing art into existence.

Our work is a rejection of certainty—a recognition that art is just as much about what goes wrong as what goes right. And in the end, we’re left with the same lingering thought: if only the art was better.
